Colorado Capitol Building

Please contact your Colorado Representative and ask them to support House Bill 1092 for Open Roads. Voicemails and emails are great, and be sure to include your home address so they know you are from their district. The House vote may be any day this week, so please call today.

Step 1: Find your Colorado House District (1 through 65)

Enter your home address at this linked website.

Click the “Find Your Districts” button and see your “CO House ##” on the right

Step 2: Talking Points (please be polite)
I am asking for your support of House Bill 1092 (Kerr-Brophy)

-This bill will give people the freedom to travel the state by bicycle.

-Banning bikes gives Colorado’s bicycle and tourism industries a black eye.

-Bicycles simply need an alternate route if a road is closed.

Step 3: Call or Email the Representative from Your House District

Contact information for each Representative can befound on our website. Please spread the word and share this with other friends of cycling.

Thanks for your help keeping roads open to bicycling!

Buena Vista, CO May 27 2010 – The Trailhead/Trailhead Cycle & Ski in Buena Vista has installed a mountain bike track behind the shop at 707 Hwy 24 N.  Arrowhead Trails of Salida completed the trail the week of 24 May using sustainable trail design and trail building concepts.  A formal dedication and ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10a Saturday, June 5th which is National Trails Day.

A beginner loop surrounds the entire area, called the TrailCenter™, with more challenging spurs and excursions branching off. The track allows such things as realistic test rides (especially good for first-time MTB buyers), post-maintenance test rides, clinics, trail maintenance & building workshops, and other opportunities – all on-site. The TrailCenter™ is designed to accommodate future expansion and a planned building expansion.

The TrailCenter™ is open to Trailhead Cycle & Ski customers and invited guests.  It is not yet open to the general public.  All users are required to check in at the shop, sign a waiver, and get a quick familiarization briefing. Normal helmet, safety, and courtesy rules will apply and will be posted.

“This fulfills a dream we have had for over six years” said Trailhead co-owner Evelyn Baker.  “We believe it will help cycling – mountain biking in particular – grow in our community.”  She adds “We encourage parents to use the TrailCenter™ as a safe, convenient place to introduce their children to mountain biking.”

ABOUT THE TRAILHEAD/TRAILHEAD CYCLE & SKI: Trailhead Cycle & Ski, the bicycle and Nordic ski component of the Trailhead, Inc., is Chaffee County’s original full-service cyclery and dates to 1982 when The Trailhead outdoor shop added bicycles.  Trailhead Cycle & Ski services all makes and models and has been a Trek dealer since 1986.

Bicyclists;
You may not be aware, but the gunnison national forest is ending a travel management plan which originally proposed making the Monarch “Crest” trail a mountain bike trail to Greens Creek,  but has now withdrawn that proposal and suggests making it a motorcycle trail.
There is time to comment on this until May 30.

We will have a meeting at the high school at 6:30 Wednesday the 12th. If you are remotely interested in racing or helping out please come down and see what is going on.
